Kelly was born on the warmest December day of 1984 just outside of Pittsburgh, PA to a RN mother and a chemical engineer father. At the age of 6 she was transplanted to Kentucky, where she did her growing up. Much of her childhood was spent in the 'burbs and in daycares. She did a stint at a catholic school, but later attended a private school. Financial situations changed however, and she attended high school at a public school.
Kelly later attended college at Purdue University where she earned Bachelor degrees in psychology and women's studies. She graduated on the Dean's and Honor roll. But not strictly an academic nut, Kelly was deeply involved in activism. She held various offices for Purdue Organization for Women's Equality and Rights, the Queer Student Union, and founded Boilers Educating Against Rape - the only sexual assault prevention program at Purdue. Kelly also was an actress in the Purdue Vagina Monologues for 3 years; she later directed and produced the show in 2007, raising over $8,000 for the local YWCA's domestic violence shelter. In 2008 she produced the show at Roosevelt University.
After graduating from Purdue, Kelly began attending Roosevelt University in Chicago to achieve her Master's degree in mental health counseling.
In addition, Kelly is a Kukkiwon certified black belt in taekwondo, a self-taught chef, an amateur photographer, a computer nerd, a poet, and a drag king (going by the name of Kyler Bushman).
Kelly realized she was queer in 2002, outed herself to friends in 2003, and outed herself to family in 2005. She adopted the term feminist for herself in 2003, and androgynous in 2004. She is passionate about equal rights, and while she focuses on women she believes in equal rights regardless of sex, gender, race, class, sexual orientation, heritage, etc.
This journal is a record of her adventures while she lives, works, and plays in one of the best cities on earth - Chicago.
